a splinter in your mind xviii

Man wrongly identifies himself with the physical body, calling it 'myself.' And when the physical body is in pain he says, 'I am ill,' because he identifies himself with something which belongs to him but which is not himself. The first thing to learn is to recognize the physical body not as one's self, but as an instrument, a vehicle, through which to experience life. -unknown.

What are your 'eternal' or 'spiritual' characteristics, qualities or identities?

Are they 'real' for your present experience or only for some future 'heaven' experience?

interesting parallel between your post and mine this week. (i posted mine just before reading yours.)

all i can say from where i sit at the moment is, although the physical body may not be one's self, it is never more present, in the physical sense, than when it is in extreme distress.

does humankind wrongly identify itself with its physical manifestation? are the soul and the corporeal separate entities, unconnected except for the convenience of a vehicle?

i hear that people of advanced meditative powers can defy all kinds of physical realities which the ordinary person cannot. most Christianity i've run into calls that separation "ungodly."

one of my goals is to take a fire walking course—and pass it. i do not believe this would be ungodly. unchristian in the ordinary sense, perhaps, but then, i'm not so convinced that ordinary christianity is what God really had in mind with the Jesus story.

good call on Shad, Me, and Bendi.
From what I hear and slightly from the smidge I've experienced (as far as finding that simple place and opening up to what ever may enter it), those meditative, out-of-body experiences kind of confirm the separation thing for me. In this realm, the corporeal is expressed by the soul, but not eternally connected to it.

I think the soul's/physical's limitations can be overcome by the realization of corporeal identity...it's definitely something to explore. It's be a shame to consider ourselves limited to our form when our true selves allow us to do so much more with it.
And you're right Wilsford, exploration isn't exactly in ordinary Christianity. Guess it's a good thing that we're not expected to stay in that box, eh?

It could be we are all manifestations of the same common denominator; Energy, Love, god, Etc. Dwell on common denominators of all.

Mistakes are an everyday part of life. Embrace them, learn for them then move on.
